The authors discuss the intentional introduction of games as therapeutic exercises in group psychotherapy. The method of introduction and general technique are illustrated. Group members are initially invited to role play games in the safe context of a class reunion. The intensity of the experience is increased as group members identify and then role play real life situations in which they use games. The advantages of inviting patients to deliberately take part in games rather than confronting them for defensive behavior are noted
