The concept of the Fully Functioning Adult complements existing theory on the functioning of that ego state. Until now the Adult has had a structural but not a functional description. The Fully Functioning Adult takes into account both the rational behavior usually attributed to the Adult (Rational Adult) and the “integrated” behavior alluded to by Berne (Poetic Adult)
