This article reexamines Berne's (1972) concept of the Demon in terms of Stern's (2005) “sloppiness” theory, which focuses on and renders constructive the inevitable degree of unpredictability that is intrinsic to the complexity of the therapeutic relation-ship. In carrying out the therapeutic plan, we must effectively integrate and make good use of those inevitable moments of chaos that characterize the emergence of transference phenomena
