Manjak mothers who have lost all their previous children at a young age, submit themselves, following divination, to the kabuatã fertility rite, in the course of which they undergo a change of identity and accompany their newborn's transformation. For three years, the infant, who remains linked to both the visible and the invisible world, is shaped so as to fixate the child in the world of men and to construct his or her humanity. The symbolism linked to bodily fluids and excretions discloses the workings of divinatory language, the sacrifice and reveals Manjak representations of childhood
