Using the author's own family video, Uncle Wolf, this essay is an example of reflecting on one's own cultural practice. It seeks to situate the family video within the institutional contexts and aesthetic debates associated with audio-visual culture. In particular, it reflects on the necessity, the tensions and the possibilities of introducing reflexivity within the audio-visual text while still retaining the ambition of engaging with the referent beyond the text and the medium
