F you were asked to predict the probable trends in school music during the next twenty-five years, I wonder just what your answer would be? Well, that is the question which has been put to me, and in this article I am doing my best to suggest the developments which to me seem most plausible and likely to occur. Of course, no one can foresee what is to happen. Yet we all have a natural curiosity and interest in the future. That is why astrologers and fortune tellers flourish. Now I am neither of these, nor any other kind of seer. I can suggest the future only by studying the past. A survey of progress during the last quarter of a century shows some marked developments which may serve as pointers toward the future
