The concept of children’s literature saw the light of the day with the works published and written by John Newbery. This genre of fiction has fascinated children and adults alike as they find such books drifting them to a fantasyland where their present troubles are at bay. The Grimm brothers’ fairy tales is one such work of literature that is universally read and liked by all. Escapism is a recent addition to literary theories, which is a window that opens up a whole new world to the readers and critics. This paper applies the theory of Escapism by Yi-Fu Tuan to analyze how the characters in the selected animal tales and tales of magic defy their harsh reality and escape into a happier world through their actions. It also studies whether Tuan’s concepts and ideas of escapism are similar or different to the behaviours and actions of characters in the selected texts
