Foucault discusses military doctrine and drills in several of his works, each with different research aims, utilizing fragmentary and heterogeneous examples from various spheres of social life to address a broader theoretical question: how power manifests in society, how it is shaped within discourse and linked to knowledge, and in what ways it acts upon individuals. The paper challenges Foucault?s analysis of military doctrine and the development of military drills in the 17th and 18th centuries as partial, overly linear, and excessively focused on structures rather than on people. By situating the research within Foucault?s concepts of the genealogy of power, episteme, and resistance, the paper argues that Foucault?s approach has effectively precluded the possibility of addressing and exploring the space of human freedom
