'Probable mutation effect' and the evolution of hominid teeth and jaws

Resumo
In view of recent suggestions that tooth and jaw reduction in the hominid line was due to random mutation, it is pointed out that positive selective factors, involving greater chewing efficiency and increased speed in movements of the head, may have been at work.
