The article examines the epitaph on the Roman soldier’s tombstone found in 2004 at the necropolis of Olbia. In 2009, 20 m from the place of the find, the male burial of the end of 2nd — 3rd century CE with remains of Roman soldiers’ shoes was discovered. Direct connection of the gravestone with this burial is not excluded. If this comparison is reasonable one can assume that the buried was a soldier-veteran who served 26 years in the Legio I Italica of the Roman army — Gaius Valerius Victor. The tombstone to him was made by T. Aurelio Piscinus, probably a fellow soldier
