This brief survey of the Stroud Valley textile industry concentrates on the recording work carried out by RCHME and others on the large mill complexes such as Longford's, Dunkirk, Ebley and Stanley Mills. The author also stresses the distinctive nature of the material evidence for the woollen industry in this area, notably the close association of early loom shops and fulling mills with clothiers' houses and the use made of separate wool-drying stoves
