This paper describes the results, to date, of archaeological excavations at the site of Bersham Ironworks, near Wrexham, Clwyd. The works date from circa 1717 to 1812, and from 1763 was one of the ironworks of John Wilkinson. Surviving buildings are described, together with other buildings and structures revealed by excavation, including a waggon way, coking facilities, blast furnace, air furnaces and foundry remains. Finally, the paper attempts to draw the results of the excavations and documentary evidence together to show how the works expanded in the latter decades of the 18th century.
