This contribution begins with a review of previous work on the use of structural cast iron in textile mills. The author's extensive site survey work is then utilised to provide additional information on structural detail. Finally, the diffusion of cast iron in textile mill construction is examined and some comments made on the rationalisation of design which accompanied the growing use of the material.
