This study investigates the structural and sociocultural barriers that hinder the economic independence of women farmers in Konda District, Southeast Sulawesi, while analysing the strategies they employ to adapt. Using a qualitative case study complemented by mixed methods, data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, participant observation, surveys, and document analysis. The findings indicate that women farmers continue to face marginalisation due to limited access to land, financial resources, and gender-sensitive agricultural technologies, as well as policy frameworks that remain dominated by male perspectives. Social challenges, including entrenched patriarchal norms, the persistence of double workloads, and insufficient recognition of women’s productive contributions, further constrain their active involvement in agriculture. Despite these challenges, women farmers develop resilience through livelihood diversification, social network strengthening, and participation in local markets. This research enriches discussions on sustainable agriculture in the Global South by highlighting the urgency of gender-responsive policies and equitable resource allocation
