National Stereotypes and social distance among a group of Afrikaans speaking students: The stereotype images and social distance towards different ethnic groups of South Africa (Afrikaans and English-speaking South Africans, Bantu, Coloureds, Jews and Indians) of two groups ofAfrikaans-speaking students from the University of Pretoria and Stellenboscb University were tested. The-results indicated that there was a close relationship between the contents of the stereotypes and the social distance which they would like to maintain towards the group: thus proving that groups that are liked are stereotypped in favourable terms and groups that are disliked are stereotyped in unfavourable and negative terms
