The need for a conscious population policy is widely recognised in South Africa but the task is complicated by the wide disparity between White and Non- White growth rates. The White nation which is largely responsible for the entrepreneural function throughout the sub-continent grows slowly, whereas the growth of the Non- White nations exceed the rate of their economic growth. The existing and possible future growth trends of the respective nations are outlined, as well as the socio-economic and political problems which will arise if these trends are allowed to continue. Emphasis is laid on outstanding basic information and research on which a comprehensive programme of population control and effective action by the respective governments can be based
