CULTURAL CONFLICT AND CRIME AMONG THE COLOURED PEOPLE OF SOUTH AFRICA The most important cultural conflict situations to which the Coloured people in South Africa are subjected, are on the one hand the result of their unintegrated cultural pattern and on the other hand. the result of their being a marginal group. The unintegrated cultural pattern among the Coloured people indicates that there are manv different and even conflicting elements in the group, that a feeling of unity and coherence does not exist and a withdrawal from the group and self is evidenced. Due to this they fall an easy prey to every imaginable social evil. Owing to the fact that the Coloured harbours a dual and borderline personality, they are psychologically caught between two worlds, that of the White and the Bantu. They are therefore citizens of a No-mansland. The personality thus experienced can in consequence provoke a state of unbalance and inner conflict which in turn can create a fertile ground for misconduct and crime
