Le maintien ou l'amélioration de la «qualité de la vie » est fréquemment évoqué comme un objectif souhaitable des interventions en santé mentale, principalement en regard des personnes qui éprouvent des difficultés majeures à vivre dans la communauté. Cat article retrace l'évolution du concept de qualité de la vie, décrit certains modèles théoriques et les résultats des recherches quant aux facteurs associés à une perception positive des conditions de vie. On y considère aussi l'utilité de ce concept dans la planification et l'évaluation des services en santé mentale
