Resumo
The aim of this study was to investigate the diversity of cats in the medieval Russian cities of Novgorod and Tver (Russia). Based on the unique osteological collection of 251 feline bones from layers of 10–14 centuries AD, research revealed the prevalence of the 'classical' slightly dolichocephalic animals of a smaller size compared to modern domestic cats. Larger specimens are rare, most likely representing wild cats or castrates.
