The present study examines Islamic habitat and urbanism of the Boatella suburb, built in Valencia in the latter half of the 12th century. In this area, located near the current Central Market of the city, an excavation covering an area of 4,800 m2 was conducted, allowing for a comprehensive archaeological study of the morphology of the houses and streets that existed before the Christian conquest of 1238. The suburb was organised according to a street layout that had been planned prior to its construction, with two parallel streets running in the same direction as the neighbourhood mosque, from which alleys and walkways extended perpendicularly. Finally, various aspects derived from the existence of dead-end streets in this type of planned neighbourhood are discussed, as their presence implies that they were part of the original design
