With the declaration of independence, the Republic of Kazakhstan has implemented a series of programs for the formation and strengthening of national identity in the context of cultural heritage. In this context, the city of Turkestan, located in Southern Kazakhstan, was given a special status as the cultural and spiritual centre of the Turkic peoples with the decision of the Kazakhstan Parliamentary Assembly on June 19, 2018.
