Brigham Young University acquired a small collection of Coptic artifacts in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Though little is known about the origin of most of the items, the provenance of the two ostraca published here can be determined given remarkable parallels they share with some published texts from known locales. One ostracon comes from Wadi Sarga and the other comes from the monastery of Apa Apollo in Bawit. Both texts date to the eighth century
