Arthur Lin. The History of Christian Missions in Guangxi, China. Eugene, OR, Pickwick Publications, 2020. Pp. 188. $24.00.Arthur Lin introduces the Guangxi region through its missionaries. He begins the introduction with their perceptions: “notoriously turbulent,” “intensely anti-foreign,” “confused and disordered” (1). Lin makes a general case for treating Guangxi as an understudied region and offers an overview of its location in China for readers. This is primarily a book about missions during the Protestant era (in Guangxi, from 1866 until around 1950), although it includes a chapter on Catholics as well as some description of their work
