in demonstrating how to think about policy and offer models for women centered and feminist social action. The experience of editor provided nearly daily contact with the work of scholars across the country. It was always educational and also humbling. And in spite of the hard work, the long hours and the painful gate-keeping, it was a pleasure to do the job. Interestingly, two observations give me tremendous pleasure now as I finish this essay: first, how wonderful that all the women who followed me as editors—Chris Bose, Christine Williams, Dana Britton, and now, Joya Misra— had articles in my issues and/or were on my editorial board; and second, how sweet it is for me that my two managing editors, Jane Ward and Judy Taylor, are colleagues and friends after all these years, a testament to our collective emotional, intellectual, and physical labor in our department and in the very special Gender & Society office
