Corpus-based critical analysis of intralanguage discrimination in Philippine English

This study aimed to advance the understanding of Philippine English by examining the phenomenon of intralanguage discrimination, which occurs when non-native speakers rebuke others for their use of Standard English. While prior research focused largely on the acceptance of Philippine English and its features, limited attention has been given to the negative perceptions associated with it. To fill this gap, the study employed a corpus-based critical discourse analysis using YouTube transcripts as primary data. Keywords extracted from the corpus were categorized into cognitive, generic, rhetorical, and social dimensions of intralanguage discrimination. By identifying and analyzing these recurring patterns, the study revealed the forms and manifestations of discrimination embedded in discourse. These findings contribute to a deeper theoretical understanding of intralanguage discrimination within the context of Philippine English
