in 2012-2013 which marked the twentieth anniversary of the publication of the Royal Society Risk report in 1992.In these Issues we showed how the objectivist definition of risk in this monograph as 'the probability that a particular adverse event occurs during a stated period of time, or results from a particular challenge' could be fruitfully reframed from an interpretivist standpoint. From this perspective, events are considered to derive variably from categorisation, adversity from negative valuing, probabilities from uncertain expectations, and stated periods of time from time-framing.In the editorial, I provide an overview of 23 research papers published in the special issues with references to the potential of interpretivist approaches to the social science of risk, and offer reflections on the strengths and limitations of this paradigm
