Greek businesses are at the forefront of foreign direct investment in south eastern Europe. Their decade long entrepreneurial activity in the region has placed them in a position to profoundly shape the economic geography of these neighbouring transition countries. The contribution explores the reasons why Greek companies have identified and taken advantage of an entirely new set of investment opportunities in the region. Geographical proximity is a key parameter driving Greek FDI in the Balkans. By contrast, the track record of Geek investments in Turkey is shaped by a very different set of parameters, despite the vicinity of both countries
