La société esclavagiste cubaine et la révolution haïtienne

sCet article étudie les répercussions de la révolution haïtienne (1791-1804) à Cuba. Il vise à aller au-delà des généralisations sur la peur et la terreur engendrées par les sociétés d'esclaves avoisinantes en révolution et à comprendre ainsi les multiples références à Haïti. Á Cuba, la révolution haïtienne a eu des effets paradoxaux : elle a, d'une part, proposé un exemple de la révolution des esclaves et, d'autre part, contribué à la consolidation d'un système basé sur la traite des Africains. En étudiant les réactions des esclavagistes et de l'État colonial espagnol sur la révolution, l'auteur prête une attention particulière à une conspiration présumée d'esclaves en 1806, dans laquelle l'exemple de la révolution haïtienne semble avoir inspiré à un groupe d'esclaves la volonté de recouvrer leur liberté par la rébellion
