The tendency to re-examine and be very suspicious of the sources related to the history of Eastern European Karaites is a mainstream of contemporary scholarship related to this topic. This trend could be explained through activity in the middle of the 19 th century of Abraham Firkovich, well-known Karaite scholar and collector, and accusation to him and following Karaite intellectuals of forgery of materials, related to the history of Karaites. A written source that has been discussed among the concerned scholars in the context of a forging during the last decades is so called Document or letter of Leonowicz
