The Mockingbird Gap site, located in the northern Jornada del Muerto of New Mexico, represents one of the largest known Clovis occupations west of the Mississippi River. Since 2022, the authors have been conducting systematic surveys and documentation, building upon previous investigations. Our multi-year research program has documented numerous artifact concentrations across the ∼0.5 km2 site extent, including hundreds of surface artifacts, and we have collected comprehensive spatial data using total station mapping and LiDAR. Analysis reveals diverse lithic raw material use dominated by locally sourced materials – primarily cherts and rhyolites – in combination with non-local materials, some from sources more than 400 kilometers distant. In 2025, we conducted geophysical remote sensing to characterize subsurface paleotopography and portable X-ray Fluorescence analysis to characterize lithic raw materials. Results of this work provide crucial baseline data for understanding Clovis technological organization, mobility patterns, and landscape use in the central Rio Grande Rift region
