Vox redactoris. Challenges of the Times and the Adaptability of Humanity

In this instalment of Quaestio Rossica, we have expanded the thematic breadth of the Scientia et vita section. Previously, our authors have written about what provoked their interest in Russian history and culture, and how this influenced their lives and careers. In the present issue, however, Sergei Zhuk (Muncie, USA) has gone a step further and presented material on his teacher Nikolai Bolkhovitinov, one of the most esteemed Russian Americanists. Zhuk takes one year in the life of his mentor, 1968, as the foundation for his article: it was in this year that Bolkhovitinov was forced to look differently at the trajectory of early American history and re-evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Russian historiography.
