Batik has been initially introduced in Jakarta during the VOC trade era. It has evolved from a commercial product to a symbol of national identity, particularly during Indonesia's independence, due to its association with political and cultural activities linked to Jakarta's role as the national government center. This study examines the significant elements and the effects of batik in the development of the urban society in Jakarta
