In analyses of settlement patterns, settlements often receive much more attention than the road networks connecting them, although the latter played an equally important role in communication and the exchange of goods. In this study, GIS methods are used to examine the medieval Csókakő domain, to explore the role and structure of local and regional routes, and to investigate how land-cover data can be integrated into modelling. The castle domain, which was held by the Csák kindred, the Hungarian king and various noble families during the Late Middle Ages, underwent significant structural changes that can be analysed in a regional context
