The article focuses on the gap between perceived and objectively measured musical interpretation. Various aspects on the visual level are identified that supposedly have a direct influence on a performance’s auditive impression. Indirectly, public relation strategies that focus on star image, such as cover design and biographical narratives, may also influence the way in which a musical interpretation is registered. The aim is to illustrate the potential for insights that an interdisciplinary and methodologically pluralistic approach to interpretation offers
