Recent editions of the Technical Treatises of the Greek Corpus Chemicum have shed some light on the relationship between alchemy and the arts and crafts. It is well known that alchemy is deeply rooted in craftsmanship but the process of knowledge transfer and mutation remains unsolved. The present paper proceeds in three steps. First, it analyses the textual interferences and the common background of techniques and alchemy. Secondly, it aims to compare the operational patterns, i.e. the so-called « dry » and « wet » methods. Thirdly it attempts to explain the « epistemological jump » by the theory of mimesis and the intuition of a discontinuous structure of matter, while the aleatory or illusory results of the practice opened a large space for kairos and supernatural interventions
