Henry de Monfreid and the triangle of hashish between Greece, Egypt and India in the roaring twenties : cannabis poisoning narrative and toxicological tribulations – We report here the case of a self-induced accidental intoxication by oral ingestion of cannabis, experienced and described by the writer and adventurer Henry de Monfreid. On the basis of notes contained in his journal, the source material for his numerous novels, we analyse the symptoms experienced by the writer after having consumed Indian hemp, in light of current knowledge. In addition, this “historic” clinical case serves as an opportunity to recall, through the toxicological tribulations of this gentleman of fortune, the historic, pharmacognostic and toxicological context of the beginning of the twentieth century
