Abstract The article seeks to restore the act of foundation of Montiéramey dated 837, known until now from a printed tradition going back to the Gallia christiana of 1770 and cast into doubt by Arthur Giry, who considered the entry to be an invention using a diploma of Charles the Bald. For the restitution, one must consult the manuscripts 227 and 952 in the Dupuy collection belonging respectively to Pierre Pithou and his brother François, who both used the Old Cartulary of Montiéramey, datable to the 12th century and now lost. The former, which has gone unnoticed, completes the latter, which is at the head of the rest of the known tradition. The act is given a scientific edition here and an essay on its restitution. The act seems incomplete at the beginning but sincere, except for a short interpolation intended to magnify the person of the Count of Troyes once he had become a territorial prince, namely in the mid 10th century. The act was probably drawn up during an informal synod held in connection with the diet in Aachen in late 837.
