The work that has been carried out is very incomplete. The first part of this article analyses the foundations and objectives of Canadian aid to Francophone West Africa between 1961 and 1975. The second part evaluates these different programmes and shows some of the limits and contradictions of Canadian aid to these African countries where French influence is still dominant
