Leur organisation politique fut ainsi modifiée dans l'effort d'adaptation aux nouvelles conditions. Les structures politiques mises alors en place délaissèrent l'institution monarchique traditionnelle au profit du despotisme et de l'autocratie. Le succès personnel et le pouvoir personnel prirent le rôle prépondérant dans les affaires politiques. La vie politique prit désormais une allure profondement différente de celle à laquelle les Yoruba furent traditionnellement associés
