The relations between the Protestant minority of Uzège and the Catholic majority are studied via the parish of Vallabrix, where a new prior took office in May 1706. A study of the parish registers of the city of Uzès provides a chronological and geographic view of the impact on the civilian populations of the conflicts there. Following the collective abjuration of its Protestants in October 1685, the notarial records reveal the desire of the prior to control people’s behaviour. After 1706, new men took his place, and their attitudes seem to reveal a logic of the pacification of antagonisms. A micro-historical approach, combined with a genealogical reconstitution, proves to be a useful instrument for the study of a question that has a more general significance, namely of the evolution of confessional co-existence at the end of the seventeenth and beginning of the eighteenth century
