Leibniz and the Mission in Hungary. Christobal de Rojas y Spinola’s 1691 Proposals for a Confessional Reunion The study contributes to a deeper understanding of Leibniz’s irenicism by examining his know ledge of the denominational reunion efforts in Hungary. Drawing on relevant materials from the Leibniz Nachlass in Hanover and the Hungarian National Archives, it contextualises and reinter prets the correspondence between Leibniz and Christobal de Rojas y Spinola from 1691. The article demonstrates that Leibniz and Rojas held differing views regarding Hungary’s position within the Habsburg Empire. On the one hand, Rojas sought ad hoc political solutions for religious peace within the framework of the Hungarian constitutional order, and was willing to overlook irreconcilable theological differences in pursuit of this goal; on the other, Leibniz regarded Hungary through the lens of the Empire’s foreign policy interests, while also striving to maintain the theological unity and intellectual rigour of the reunion efforts
