This paper, based on group interviews conducted in Florencio Varela (2024), explores the conceptions that youth in this disadvantaged suburban area develop regarding political participation, its forms, purposes, and experiences. These conceptions are then contrasted with the classic and contemporary definitions provided by academic literature on this concept, in order to reveal the new meanings, imaginaries, modalities, and goals that participation acquires for this group. Finally, a specific typology of participation is constructed based on the collected testimonies, with the aim of updating preexisting classifications and encompassing new emerging realities. This is of particular interest, timeliness, and relevance as it incorporates the ways of understanding and exercising participation in the public sphere by a central actor for the present and future of our constitutional democratic States, an actor that, nevertheless, is often neglected
