This article analyses the family transmission of the Basque language by comparing the situations of the different Basque-speaking territories, namely the Basque Autonomous Community, the Navarre Foral Community and the French Basque Country, based on the results of sociolinguistic surveys on the situation of the Basque language carried out every five years since 1991. The result is that, despite the diversity of starting points and trajectories, the transmission of the Basque language is strongly dependent on the linguistic competence and the first language of the parents and varies according to the period, the age of the speakers and the sociolinguistic area concerned. In other words, the more Basque-speaking the parents are and the more Basque is spoken as a first language, the more transmission takes place. Similarly, the more the parents are members of new generations, the younger the parents are and the more they live in sociolinguistic areas with a high proportion of Basque speakers, the more effective the transmission is
