The case study aims to present a set of findings that elucidate the practice, form, and aspects of the legal institution výměnek (das Ausgedinge; retirement contract) as a form of social and material support for elderly people in the villages of the Hradec Králové estate from the mid-18th to the mid-19th century, based on an analysis of available source material. Special attention is given to the village of Lochenice, which was selected as a model village for the study. The text outlines, among other things, the age at which individuals entered into a výměnek, its extent on different types of peasant homesteads, as well as some specifics in its provision or enjoyment. For context, in addition to the main issue, a general description of inheritance law and the practices surrounding changes in property ownership at that time is also provided
