The article examines the question of anchor in intramental, interpersonal, and intercultural communication, arguing that two individuals never speak quite the same language. Using Freud, Winnicott, and Bion in particular, I distinguish between three forms of “translation”, and thus approach the complexities and challenges of communal life from a novel perspective
