Australian composer and pianist Percy Grainger is known for his unusually dedicated approach to preserving his own legacy. In 1918, Scottish writer and music critic D.C. Parker published a booklet titled Percy Grainger: A Study, constituting the first standalone Grainger biography. This work contains early examples of tropes that would later characterize scholarly constructions of Grainger: tropes that had, in fact, come from Grainger himself. This article explores Grainger’s influence on Parker’s biography, arguing that it should be considered a work of auto/biography in which Grainger played an uncredited but substantial authorial role
