In Poland and in some other countries of the world different kinds of cross-planked bottom boats have been and still are built. The author has undertaken to establish the places where they are built, their chronology and building techniques, and, on the basis of this information, to investigate the question of potential connections between individual examples. From this research emerges the ongoing process of diffusion of the cross-planked bottom boat idea. Everything indicates that it started in the second half of the 18th century in North America. It was adopted in different types of crafts – previously existing or new – and activities. The advantages are cheapness and ease of construction
