La fécondité est en général élevée en Europe du Nord et faible en Europe du Sud. Dans les pays ex-communistes du Centre et de l’Est de l’Europe, l’indicateur conjoncturel de fécondité s’est effondré après la chute du Mur de Berlin en 1989, mais il est en train de se relever rapidement depuis quelques années
