To date there remains a lack of substantive investigation into the hiring processes and recruitment strategies employed by those in power at exotic dance clubs. The researcher acted as a covert, complete participant in job inquiries at 25 exotic dance clubs in three Midwestern cities in order to elucidate gendered influence as evidenced by techniques incorporated in the interview process. Emergent patterns and themes suggest the need for a reworking of the conceptualization of the socialization process of exotic dancers to include tactics for maximizing earning potential and managing stigma that are introduced in the initial club contact and job interview
