This study investigated the relationship between participation in professional training and service quality among geriatric social workers, as well as the underlying mechanism that influenced this relationship. Linear regression and mediation analysis were conducted to examine the association and the underlying mechanism, using data from 2517 geriatric social workers across 55 cities in China. Participation in one additional professional training was associated with an average increase of 0.05 in the service quality score; each 0.02 increase in the interaction between job autonomy and training participation corresponded to an average increase of 0.01 in service quality. The positive association between participation in professional training and service quality was particularly pronounced among geriatric social workers who were younger, female, held a college degree, were married, had lower incomes, did not hold a management role, experienced higher levels of burnout, had shorter social work experience, reported higher role ambiguity, and had lower levels of sense of identity, organizational support, job satisfaction, collective psychological ownership, and perceptions of social work, compared with their counterparts. These findings underscore the importance of expanding training opportunities for those experiencing greater family or work pressures, which may in turn enhance overall service quality in geriatric social work
